FAQ - nutritionist Tauranga

Appointments

During your first appointment, you'll have the chance to explain what's been going on, share your health history and discuss your goals.

I'll ask questions to better understand your symptoms, current diet and nutritional status, then we'll talk through the most appropriate next steps.

Throughout the appointment, I'll explain the evidence behind my recommendations in a way that's practical and easy to understand.

It can be helpful to bring along any recent blood test results.

After your appointment, I’ll email you a summary of our discussion, along with helpful resources and personalised recommendations.

With your permission, and where appropriate, I'll also update your GP or specialist so everyone involved in your care is working from the same information.

If we decide another appointment would be helpful, we'll discuss what that might look like based on your goals and progress.

Appointment fees are listed on my Bookings page.

Some New Zealand health insurance policies cover appointments with a Registered Nutritionist. Cover varies between insurers and policies, so it's best to check with your provider before your appointment. If you're eligible to claim, simply submit the receipt I provide to your insurer after payment.

No referral is needed. You can book an appointment with me directly at any time.

Some clients come to me following a referral from their GP or specialist, while others simply decide they’d like some personalised nutrition support. There’s no right or wrong way to get started.

Yes. I offer secure Telehealth appointments, so you can access nutrition support from anywhere in New Zealand. Many of my clients choose online appointments because they're convenient and just as personalised as meeting in person.

That’s absolutely fine, especially if your child is very young. If you think they would benefit from a chat with me, we can always book a follow-up appointment.

Can you help me?

Absolutely. Online nutrition advice can feel overwhelming, especially when you're getting conflicting information.

We'll start by looking at your current diet, your health concerns and what's important to you. From there, I'll help you make realistic changes (rather than following another restrictive diet).

I can also help with nutrition-related conditions such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, diabetes and fatty liver disease.

No. Many of my clients come to me because they're looking for answers, not because they already have a diagnosis.

If you're experiencing symptoms and are unsure what's causing them, we can work through your health history, current diet and any previous tests together. If I think further investigations would be helpful, I'll explain why and, where appropriate, communicate with your GP or specialist.

Coeliac disease is one of my key areas of expertise. Having lived with coeliac disease for more than 25 years, I understand the challenges firsthand.

I can support you with:

• Diagnosis (including the gluten challenge)
• Family testing
• Nutrient deficiencies
• The gluten-free diet
• Label reading
• Ongoing monitoring
• Non-responsive coeliac disease

Whether you've just been diagnosed or have been living with coeliac disease for years, I'll provide practical, evidence-based advice tailored to your situation.

Yes. I have extensive training and experience in using the low FODMAP diet to help manage digestive symptoms (IBS).

I'll first assess your symptoms and overall diet to make sure a low FODMAP approach is appropriate. If it is, I'll guide you through each stage of the process, making it practical and easy to follow while helping you identify your individual food triggers.

Yes. I support people living with eosinophilic oesophagitis (EOE).

Dietary triggers vary from person to person, so we'll review your current diet, symptom history and any previous investigations. If appropriate, I'll guide you through a personalised elimination and reintroduction process to help identify foods that may be contributing to your symptoms.

I can assess your child's symptoms, review their diet and explore whether specific foods (or other factors) may be contributing.

If needed, I'll guide you through food elimination and reintroduction in a safe, structured way.

My approach is always practical and family-friendly, so any recommendations will work in everyday life.
